Sagar Defence Plans India’s First Autonomous Maritime Shipyard in Andhra Pradesh

Sagar Defence Shipyard in Andhra Pradesh: The Andhra Pradesh Government has given approval to a big defence project that will help India grow stronger at sea. The state has cleared a proposal from Sagar Defence Engineering Private Limited to build India’s first special shipyard only for autonomous maritime systems. This new facility will come up at Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour in Bogole Mandal of SPSR Nellore district.

The new shipyard will focus only on unmanned and autonomous ships. These are vessels that can work with very little or no human control. The project will help the coastal area grow and will also create many jobs. Around 750 people are expected to get work from this project. About 300 jobs will be direct and nearly 450 jobs will be indirect.

How will Autonomous Shipyard Help?

Sagar Defence Engineering Private Limited is a well-known Indian company in defence and maritime technology. It works on advanced systems like autonomous surface vessels and underwater platforms. The company strongly supports Indian-made designs and modern technology.

An autonomous maritime shipyard is a modern place where unmanned ships are built tested and maintained. These shipyards also support smart systems sensors and command tools. Such facilities help improve coastal safety sea monitoring and defence readiness.

Land Allotment

The state government has approved the allotment of 29.58 acres of land for this project. This land will be given on lease through the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board. Out of the total land 7.58 acres will be waterfront land and 22 acres will be harbour land.

Project Timeline

Construction of the shipyard is planned to begin in December 2025. The company will install machinery by June 2026. Trial production is expected to start in October 2026. Full commercial operations should begin in November 2026, ET reports.

There will also be an extra charge for the waterfront land as per Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board rules.
