New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has asked some City Hall employees to resign when he takes office on Jan. 1, a spokesperson confirmed to PIX11 News. The New York Times reported that about 179 workers will be affected by the resignations. These changes will mostly impact political offices, including those run by deputy mayors.
Mayor transition job changes
Mamdani’s spokesperson told PIX11 News, “As is standard practice for a mayoral transition, the Mayor-elect and his transition team are working to build their City Hall plan, which includes new staff in key roles to ensure they can deliver effectively on their agenda.”
Mamdani has already appointed more than 400 city leaders to 17 transition committees. These committees will give recommendations on both staff and policies. His direct transition team includes people who worked in the de Blasio and Adams administrations.

Mamdani plans to keep NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch in her role. He praised her for the sharp decrease in crime since she became commissioner. His chief of staff will be Elle Bisgaard-Church, who managed Mamdani’s primary campaign.
