AI Reshaping Careers Faster Than Jobs, TechGig

Infosys Chief Human Resources Officer Shaji Mathew highlighted that artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping enterprise work by changing careers faster than traditional job structures. This shift requires organisations to rethink talent models, career progression, and leadership, moving beyond solely technology adoption.

Rethinking Workforce Strategy

Infosys views AI transformation as a strategic business agenda rather than merely a technology shift. The company is redesigning its talent operating model, talent career model, and talent development model. This involves building an “ambidextrous organisation” that combines broad AI adoption with deeper engineering and domain expertise. The company is strengthening external hiring for specialist programmers, full-stack engineers, and professionals with deep domain expertise. Internally, it is accelerating capability building through bridge programmes, assessments, and business incubator initiatives. Infosys is also evolving its career architecture to support greater specialisation alongside leadership pathways, enabling employees to deepen expertise in technology and domain areas.

Emerging AI-Driven Roles and Skills

AI is accelerating demand for deeper engineering expertise, domain knowledge, and the ability to build and deploy AI solutions at scale. This has led to the emergence of new roles such as AI builders, who develop contextual AI platforms; AI masters, who drive adoption and shape governance; and forward-deployed engineers, who integrate AI into client environments. Infosys anticipates future careers will be defined more by skills and expertise than by conventional job titles.

Skills-First Approach and Performance Shifts

Infosys has trained over 300,000 employees in AI and digital skills, measuring progress by capability development and business impact. As AI embeds into work, performance expectations are shifting from routine tasks to combining AI fluency with business context, engineering depth, and sound judgment. Leaders are now expected to help teams embrace new ways of working and foster an environment where human and AI capabilities complement each other.
