The Crime Branch (CB) is continuing its probe into the serious jobs-for-cash allegations made by main accused Pooja Naik, saying an FIR will be filed only after the claims are backed by solid evidence.

Sources said the team needs material proof to support Naik’s accusations against an IAS officer and a Public Works Department (PWD) officer, both of whom she named in her statement to the Crime Branch.

“It’s part of the procedure to make sure our inquiry cannot be challenged in court. Naik has named two officers, and we have sought the government’s permission to investigate them. For now, we are gathering evidence. No FIR has been registered yet,” a senior official said.

The latest claims — about Rs 17 crore allegedly paid as bribes to a minister and two senior bureaucrats — have shifted the focus of the investigation onto the trio.

While the government is likely to give approval, sources said the State may also have to get clearance from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs before questioning the IAS officer, as he comes under the Central government’s jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, Naik has been questioned twice by the CB in the past 72 hours and once by the Bicholim police after her new statements.
