Er Rashid Seeks Compensation, Jobs for Families of Deceased Baramulla Porters | Kashmir Life

SRINAGAR: Member of Parliament from Baramulla Er Rashid has written to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, seeking compensation and rehabilitation for the families of two porters who lost their lives while working in high altitude areas of north Kashmir.
The letter was shared by Awami Itihaad Party chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi, who said the MP has highlighted the deaths of Lyakat Ahmad Deedar and Riyaz Ahmad Khattana, residents of the Chandosa area of Baramulla district. The two porters died after slipping from a high-altitude mountain while performing duties in the Gulmarg sector.
In the communication, Er Rashid urged the Defence Ministry to frame a clear and reasonable policy to ensure job security and welfare of porters working with security forces in difficult terrain. He stressed that porters who lose their lives while performing duties in tough, high altitude and hostile conditions should be treated at par with Agniveer soldiers.
The MP further stated that the families of the deceased porters require full and concrete financial support and that it is the responsibility of the ministry to ensure their proper rehabilitation. He requested that the bereaved families be provided the same legal financial assistance extended to Agniveer soldiers who die in the line of duty.
Er Rashid also sought government employment for at least one member from each of the affected families, describing it as a necessary step to provide long-term support and dignity to those left behind.
