Farce Was Done in the Name of Jobs during Communist Rule in Tripura: CM Dr. Manik Saha

Agartala, November 11, 2025: Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday came down heavily on the previous communist government, alleging that a “farce was done in the name of jobs” during their tenure. He asserted that the present BJP-led government is functioning with complete transparency and giving top priority to the overall development of the education sector in Tripura.

Dr. Saha made these remarks while inaugurating the Kakraban Government Degree College and virtually inaugurating a 50-bed girls’ hostel of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) at the college grounds in Gomati district.

“Today marks a historic milestone for the people of Kakraban. In the past, there was only chaos and anarchy in the name of education. The communist regime misled the youth with violent ideologies. Schools and colleges were unsafe — people lived in fear,” said the Chief Minister.

He further added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the government has been working relentlessly to eliminate extremism and restore peace and stability across the state.

Taking a dig at the Left parties, Dr. Saha said, “Yesterday, the communists held a meeting in Agartala urging people to take to the streets. But the people of Tripura no longer believe in the politics of incitement. They have witnessed years of violence, murders, and arson. During their time, jobs were only given to their own party workers. It was political favouritism at its worst. Our government has already provided about 20,000 jobs in a transparent manner.”

The Chief Minister reiterated that education remains a top priority area for his government. “Tripura ranks second among North Eastern states in terms of GSDP and per capita income. The NITI Aayog has also recognised Tripura as a front-runner state. These achievements reflect our government’s commitment and transparent functioning,” he said.

Emphasizing the importance of education in nation-building, Dr. Saha said, “Education is the backbone of the nation. An educated society leads to a self-reliant and developed nation. Our government has focused on providing quality education to every child. Students should also participate in social work and nation-building activities.”

The Chief Minister announced that three new degree colleges—at Kakraban, Ambassa, and Karbook—are being set up to meet local educational needs. The Kakraban DIET has also been recognised as a Model DIET under the Centre of Excellence Scheme for the financial year 2025–26, with the Union Ministry of Education allocating over ₹13 crore for its development.

He added that efforts are underway to transform Tripura into an educational hub, with new universities being established in the private sector as well.

Among the dignitaries present at the event were Finance Minister Pranajit Singh Roy, Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, MLAs Jitendra Majumder and Ranjit Das, Gomati Zilla Parishad President Deval Debroy, Kakraban Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Supriya Saha, Special Secretary (Education) Ravel Hemendra Kumar, SCERT Director L. Darlong, Higher Education Director Animesh Debbarma, Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather, Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar K, and several senior officials and public representatives.
