Tripura Initiates Work-From-Home Policy for Fuel Conservation

In a move to conserve fuel, the Tripura government has decreed that half of its Group C and D workforce will operate from home, taking immediate effect. This decision aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal to adopt similar measures where feasible.

A memorandum issued by Special Secretary A K Bhattacharjee from the General Administration Department outlines that Heads of Departments (HoDs) must organize a weekly duty roster. This roster will alternate office attendance among employees, prioritizing those living nearby for the first week’s schedule.

Employees working remotely are required to stay accessible via phone and electronic communications and must report to office if necessary. The directive includes all subordinate offices, public sector undertakings, and local bodies, though essential and emergency services are excluded. The northeastern state, currently home to around one lakh employees, primarily incorporates Group C and D staff.
