Corporate job better than influencer life? Creator wants to leave social media career for office work. Her reason is unexpected

For years, social media has sold the idea that becoming a full-time influencer is the ultimate escape from office life. Flexible schedules, brand deals, trips, free products and the freedom to work from anywhere are often presented as the perfect lifestyle online. But now, one Dubai-based influencer of Indian origin is opening up about why she wants to walk away from that world and return to a regular corporate job instead.

Twinkle Stanly recently shared in an Instagram video that after spending nearly two years as a full-time content creator, she is actively looking for a traditional job again. What caught people’s attention was that her decision had nothing to do with money. In fact, she admitted she has been earning more than ever through influencing.

From office life to influencer career

Stanly explained that she had quit her corporate job almost two years ago to fully focus on social media and content creation. Before that, she was balancing both careers together for nearly a year.
“I quit my job nearly two years ago to live the dream and become a full-time influencer and content creator. And now I am looking for a job again,” she said in her video.

According to her, content creation initially became an outlet during a difficult phase in life. She was going through several personal changes at the time, including leaving what she described as a toxic relationship and moving into her first studio apartment while also handling a demanding full-time job.

“There was a lot going on for me, which naturally inspired me to go a little bit out there and start making videos,” she said. “I was actively living a happening life and processing it by talking about it on socials.”
As her audience grew online, she eventually realised that social media was taking less time while bringing in much more money than her corporate role. That pushed her to take influencing up full-time.

‘Social media is not that hard’

In the now-viral video, Stanly also spoke honestly about the reality behind influencer life, something many viewers said they were not expecting to hear from a creator herself.“We do not have to get stuck in traffic for three hours every single day. We can go on holiday whenever we want,” she said. “Social media is not that hard, okay? I’ll be the first to admit that.”

Still, she explained that the freedom she once wanted eventually started feeling empty. Without a fixed routine, deadlines from a workplace or regular interaction with colleagues, she slowly began feeling mentally disconnected from her work.

She said influencing no longer felt “intellectually stimulating” and added that she personally thrives in environments where there is pressure, structure and problem-solving involved.

“We as humans also need pressure and contrast and friction in our lives,” Stanly explained. “Especially as a creative person, I’ve realised that I need to have a happening life that I’m deeply engaged with in order to be inspired to come and talk to you about it.”

Creator Lifestyle

Talking about her daily routine as a creator, Stanly admitted that things had started becoming repetitive. She said most days involved checking social media, working on brand collaborations and thinking about what content to upload next.

“This is not life,” she said while describing how limited her routine had become. She also admitted that returning to the corporate world now feels uncertain after spending years outside that system. “I also don’t know if I can actually go back to a job. I also don’t know what kind of jobs look like for me,” she said.

Her comments quickly sparked debate online. While some people were surprised that anyone would voluntarily leave influencer life for a 9-to-5 job, many others said they understood her point completely. Several users responded by saying financial success does not always bring fulfilment and that structure, teamwork and professional challenges can sometimes feel more meaningful than total freedom.
