Techie quit his Rs 33 LPA job without another offer. He got rejected thrice and then accepted Rs 29 LPA job. He said, ‘I did what I felt right’

A high salary does not always guarantee a happy work life. One IT professional reportedly walked away from a Rs 33 LPA job without another offer because the workload had become overwhelming and he wanted more time for himself and his family. After taking a short break, facing three rejections and eventually landing a Rs 29 LPA work-from-home role, he chose a lower package for a calmer lifestyle. Pune-based founder Vanesh Mali shared his story on X.

Why the techie quit a Rs 33 LPA job

According to Pune-based founder Vanesh Mali, one of his friends working in IT was earning Rs 33 LPA in a work-from-office role. However, the compensation was not enough to keep him satisfied. Mali said his friend had been frustrated with his workload for more than six months and was actively trying to find another job.
There was another hurdle. His two-month notice period made the search even more difficult because many companies were looking for candidates who could join immediately. With little time left for interview preparation and applications, he eventually made a risky decision. He resigned without having another offer in hand.

He took five days off before starting his job search

Rather than immediately jumping into applications, the techie took five days completely off. Mali said there was no work, job hunting or preparation during that period. Instead, he spent the time with his family and children. After those five days, he updated his resume, began preparing more systematically and started applying for jobs that interested him.

The search did not produce instant results. He was rejected by three companies before finally receiving an offer from the fourth.

Rs 29 LPA offer came with work from home

The fourth company offered him Rs 29 LPA, which was Rs 4 lakh lower than his previous CTC. On paper, it could have looked like a step backwards. But there was a major difference in the working arrangement. The new job allowed him to work from home and required him to visit the office only when needed.

He accepted the offer after trusting his instinct that it was a good company. He has since joined the organisation and, according to Mali, is happy with the decision.

Why he chose Rs 29 LPA over Rs 33 LPA

The decision was not driven by money. Mali explained that his friend did not leave his previous job because of compensation. Similarly, he did not accept the new role because it offered more money. What he wanted was something else: more personal time, more family time and a greater sense of peace.

The Rs 29 LPA job offered him a work arrangement that better matched those priorities.

He took the risk without a backup offer

Quitting a Rs 33 LPA job without another offer was undoubtedly a gamble. The techie also had to deal with three rejections before finding the opportunity he wanted. Yet, the decision eventually worked out for him. Mali said his friend now looks back at the decision positively. His message, as shared by Mali, was simple: “I did what I felt right. And I am happy with my decision.”
