Couple arrested for cheating with work from home offers in Devanahalli

CHIKKABALLAPUR: The Devanahalli police have arrested a couple who had defrauded people to the tune of crores of rupees with work from home offers. The couple was running a business establishment in the name of Kalika Devi Enterprises.

The accused Kiran and his wife Arathi allegedly cheated thousands of people by luring them with promises of work from home. They accused had posted reels on Instagram promising work from home jobs. They collected lakhs of rupees as deposits and went into hiding after cheating people.

The couple collected deposits ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 20 lakh from each person in the name of candle, dry fruits and agarbathi packing work. The couple convinced people that if they deposited Rs 1 lakh for one month for raw material packing, they would be paid Rs 23,000. People trusted the couple’s words, took loans, and deposited lakhs of rupees.

The couple had duped several people in Devanahalli, Doddaballapura, Chikkajala and Kolar. Those who paid money have been struggling for the past few months with neither work nor their money back. Based on public complaints, an FIR was registered and the couple was arrested by police. Further investigation is under way.
