Intel cuts jobs in Santa Clara as part of its 15% global workforce reduction

Chipmaker Intel has eliminated 59 jobs across three facilities in Santa Clara, California, marking another step in its plan to trim 15 per cent of its global workforce. All 59 job losses were classified as permanent.

The layoffs took effect on 30 November and were disclosed in a mandatory filing with California’s Employment Development Department. Local reports noted that Intel submitted the notice quietly late last month.

The largest cut occurred at Intel’s main corporate campus at 2200 Mission College Boulevard, where 45 positions were eliminated. Another three roles were cut at the company’s Bowers Avenue office, and 11 positions were shed at its Juliette Lane facility, according to the state filing.

These reductions form part of Intel’s broader restructuring strategy. Earlier this year, the company announced plans to shrink its global headcount by about 15 per cent, a move aimed at reducing costs while accelerating investment in advanced manufacturing and foundry services.

The restructuring is expected to free up capital for long-term initiatives, including AI-related technologies and upcoming process nodes.

While the latest job cuts make up a small fraction of Intel’s overall workforce, they underscore the ongoing recalibration across the US tech sector, where companies are balancing ambitious investment plans with tighter cost controls.
