Bihar CM Nitish Kumar gets cracking on 1-crore job promise, sets Dec 31 deadline for govt vacancy details

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed all the government departments in the state to submit vacancy details till December 31, 2025, to expedite the process of providing government jobs, a promise that the JDU leader had made while campaigning for his re-election.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), writing in Hindi, Kumar said the Bihar government had provided 50 lakh jobs to the state’s youth between 2020 and 2025.

According to the CM, all of Bihar’s administrative departments, divisional commissioners, offices under police headquarters, and district magistrates have been directed to ensure that they submit vacancy-related applications to the General Administration Department by December 31, 2025. Following that, the department would scrutinise the  applications and forward them to the relevant appointment commissions without much ado.

The NDA leader has also directed all appointment commissions and selection agencies to publish the full-year calendar for appointments in January 2026.

The calendar should “clearly” mention the date of advertisement publication, the tentative duration for conducting examinations and the date of final result publication, among others.

Kumar said he has strictly told the officials that more than one year should not elapse between the first publication of the advertisement and the final result  — regardless of how many stages the examinations have.

Transparent conduct, CBT tests

Before the Bihar polls, the chief minister had promised to provide one crore government jobs to the state’s youth in the next five years till 2030 if he remained in power.

He said he wants the exams to be conducted in a fair and transparent manner. In case of any irregularity, the culprits will be identified, and will face action through fast-track courts.

Kumar has also instructed the officials to increase the number of examination centres for the online Computer Based Test (CBT) examinations so that they can be conducted smoothly and on time.
