New Delhi: Hiring in India’s e-commerce and quick commerce sector has surged by 35 per cent over the past two years, with companies increasingly focusing on technology, AI capabilities, and operational execution, according to a new report released on Thursday.
The CIEL HR report shows that total hiring demand in the sector rose from 73,320 roles in 2023 to nearly 98,750 roles in 2025, signalling strong growth and structural shifts in recruitment strategies.
“This growth reflects a transition from expansion-led hiring to building deeper capabilities in platform resilience, fulfilment precision, and AI-enabled customer experience,” the report said.

Technology and engineering roles have seen the sharpest increase, with demand more than tripling over the last two years. Positions such as software developers, DevOps engineers, solution architects, and AI and machine learning experts are now central to hiring strategies.
Supply chain and fulfilment roles have also grown, rising 25 per cent during the same period. Jobs such as warehouse managers, inventory controllers, and city operations leads are increasingly critical, particularly for quick commerce companies expanding into smaller cities and improving delivery efficiency.

The report highlights a growing premium for advanced digital skills. Professionals in artificial intelligence and machine learning are earning 30 to 40 per cent more than traditional tech roles, while specialists in generative AI, large language models, natural language processing, and computer vision can command annual salaries up to ₹50 lakh.
India’s gig workforce has surpassed 12 million in 2025 and is expected to nearly double to 23.5 million by 2030, reflecting the sector’s increasing reliance on flexible talent models.
Among cities, Bengaluru and Hyderabad remain key hubs for technology and engineering jobs, while Chennai is emerging as a centre for product management and analytics roles, according to the report.
