A case of online fraud has come to light in Dehradun, where a man was cheated of more than Rs five lakh in the name of a work-from-home job and crypto investment. The victim, Arjun Singh, a resident of Clement Town, has filed a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Dehradun.
According to the complaint, on December 10, Singh received a WhatsApp message offering a part-time work-from-home job from a company named C-Square Info Solutions, Mumbai. He was asked to like and comment on YouTube videos and was initially paid small commissions, which made the offer appear genuine. Later, the victim was added to Telegram groups and was persuaded to invest money on a platform called Gemini Crypto Transaction Platform. He was asked to send money through different UPI IDs and bank accounts for investment. In the beginning, he received small returns, which increased his trust. Gradually, the accused persons allegedly pressurised him to invest larger amounts. The victim transferred money several times from his bank account and also from the accounts of his friends and relatives. In total, he transferred about Rs 5.07 lakh.
When the victim asked to withdraw his money, the so-called account manager threatened that the entire amount would be seized if he did not invest more money. After realising that he had been cheated, the victim approached the cyber crime police. The police have registered a case and started an investigation.
