Stalin announces govt jobs for best jallikattu bull tamers | Madurai News


Madurai: The state govt will provide jobs on priority in the animal husbandry department to the best bull tamers of jallikattu events, chief minister M K Stalin announced during the Alanganallur jallikattu in Madurai district on Saturday. He said a state-of-the-art training and treatment centre for bulls will also be set up at a cost of Rs2 crore in Alanganallur.Stalin arrived around 11.30am, almost four and a half hours after the jallikattu commenced on Saturday. Following an oath-taking ceremony led by district collector K J Praveen Kumar, commercial taxes minister P Moorthy flagged off the event. Nearly 1,000 bulls and 491 bull tamers participated. A total of 63 people, including bull tamers, bull owners, police personnel, and spectators, sustained injuries during the sport. As many as 23 people were referred to Government Rajaji Hospital for further treatment

Chief minister Stalin who watched the renowned bull-taming event, felicitated seven bull owners and tamers, one of whom was a woman, with gold coins and rings.Stalin said Madurai was a land where bravery flourished. “It is a proud moment for Tamil soil to see bull tamers taming the bulls at Alanganallur jallikattu. When we watch jallikattu, we all feel a sense of bravery,” he said, adding that they built the Kalaingar Centenary Jallikattu Arena at Alanganallur to support the heroic sport.Karthi of Karuppayurani, who tamed 19 bulls, was declared the best tamer, and received a car sponsored by the chief minister, while Abi Sithar of Poovanthi secured second place by taming 17 bulls. He received a two-wheeler, while Sridhar received an e-bike for securing third place. Karthi thanked Stalin for making the announcement on govt jobs.A V M Babu of Pudukottai bagged a tractor and a cow and calf of native breed for the best-performing bull. The bull owned by Tamil Selvan of Pudukottai secured second place and received a two-wheeler, while Kennedy received an e-bike for third place. Ministers K N Nehru, K K S S R Ramachandran, Thangam Thennarasu, R S Rajakannappan, P T R Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, MLAs K Thalapathy, A Venkatesan and Boominathan, MPs Thanga Tamil Selvan and Su Venkatesan attended the event.
