A Chennai-based startup founder has sparked an online debate after revealing that a young employee left a corporate role to pursue full-time delivery work. Akshat Jain, founder of Seeco Wealth, revealed that the 22-year-old, who worked in the administration team, chose to resign after discovering he could make significantly more through gig-based delivery jobs.

According to Jain, the employee was considered a high-potential team member with a promising future. He claimed the company had been actively mentoring him, providing access to books and exposure to artificial intelligence tools, with the expectation that he could grow into a leadership role within three to five years. However, the young worker’s priorities shifted after he began taking up delivery gigs on weekends to supplement his income.

Jain said the employee eventually concluded that delivery work could fetch him between Rs 35,000 and Rs 40,000 per month, an amount he found more attractive than his current salary.

Despite attempts to convince him otherwise, the employee decided to leave. The founder argued that while delivery work may offer short-term financial benefits, it lacks long-term career growth, skill development, and could even take a toll on health over time.

The post, shared on social media platform X, quickly gained traction but also drew sharp criticism.

One user remarked, “Nice way to say that you were paying him by grooming him rather than paying him enough to survive. If he left you for 35k delivery job then it’s easy to understand how much you were paying him. Food on plate is more important to most people rather than AI books and grooming for corporate skills.”

Another user took a more dismissive tone, commenting, “Lmao admin staff se toh acha career hai delivery ka. Admin kaun Banta hai lmao.”

A third user criticised both sides, writing, “R u paying him 15-20k even after u know he is talented, that’s called exploitation is simple words, Although it’s his mistake as well, that instead of switching at better pay he indulge himself in delivery work whixh offer no skills and no growth.”

Others questioned the company more directly. “He was so good – but you couldn’t pay him ~50k?” another person asked. “I dare you to disclose how much you paid him.”

“May be he just want to feed the loved ones depending on him two times a day and stay alive for “those five” years and then think about high wage “if he stays alive” after 5 years. :(,” one user wrote.

Another pointed out the uncertainty of corporate jobs, saying, “By the time he would develops corporate skills, he may be fired on the grounds that an AI tool can do his job.”
