A techie’s transformation from sending applications to “contributing” to a company’s operations helped him land a job with an Abu Dhabi-based startup. In a detailed post shared about his success story online, this techie revealed how he received his breakthrough not via applying on a job portal but by solving a single GitHub issue.

In his post, the techie revealed he got a job offer from the founder of this startup venture after forking a YC-backed open-source project and providing a clear solution. “A lot of people have been asking how I got into an Abu Dhabi-based startup without applying — and that too within 48 hours. Here’s the full story,” he wrote.

‘Stop Spraying Applications, Start Contributing’

In his quest to land the right job, the techie initially started aggressively applying on LinkedIn and X. However, it was a mental shift from applying to contributing that gave a direct link to the founder of this startup. “I posted on X on 3rd Feb that I need a job. Signed the offer letter on 19th Feb. In between? Pure chaos, rejection, and one random GitHub issue that changed everything,” he wrote. “I made a decision: Stop spraying applications. Start contributing.

The approach worked just fine for the techie, who got access to a YC-backed open-source project and submitted a detailed solution on GitHub. That is when he caught the founder’s attention and secured an interview opportunity within hours.

The techie hardwork could’ve still gone in vain if the power cuts and his laptop’s technical glitches hadn’t been resolved on time for the demo that went on for two hours. However, the techie’s diverse portfolio of live projects executed and years of experience meant that he earned an offer letter the same day.

‘The Offer Letter Arrived, I Didn’t Sleep’

The techie’s story of shifting his job search approach and eventually landing the desired gig with this Abu Dhabi startup should be inspiring for others on social media. It is also a very human story as he faced technical glitches at the worst possible time, but still navigated through them.

“The offer letter arrived at 3 am. I didn’t sleep again. That Friday, I finally crashed and slept for 10 hours straight. Monday, I joined the company,” wrote the man, feeling relieved and joyous.

“The job didn’t come from a portal. It came from a single GitHub comment on a random Monday morning. Increase your surface area. You never know which door opens.”

By sharing the post, the man urged fellow tech developers and engineers to continue working hard and be prepared for opportunities that may come knocking on their door in different shapes and forms.
