20-Year-Old Techie Lands Rs 70 LPA Remote Job Without Degree: ‘Still Feels Weird Sometimes’ | Viral News

The techie shared his story on Reddit and explained that he began freelancing when he was just 16 years old. According to him, he did not have a clear career plan at the time and simply started taking up projects online.
“I did freelancing when I was like 16 because I genuinely had no clue what else to do,” he wrote. He said he initially worked on random projects, often for very little money, and also dealt with difficult clients.
Over time, he started learning more about growth and marketing by working on real assignments. “Did random projects at first, got underpaid a lot, worked with terrible clients too, but over time got better at growth + marketing stuff,” he added.
The Reddit user claimed he later worked on more than 12 projects and even contributed to the growth team of a major company as a freelancer. He said he never had a top degree and mostly learned by exploring things online every day.
The techie further shared that he came across a startup in San Francisco that had recently raised nearly $50 million and was hiring for a role with a salary package of around Rs 70 LPA. Even though he felt he had very little chance, he still decided to apply for the role.
However, the startup rejected him in the beginning. “The company had recently raised almost $50M in San Francisco and honestly I thought there was no way they’d even consider me. I still applied. Got rejected,” he wrote.
He said he continued applying for opportunities and later managed to connect directly with the startup founder. That conversation eventually led to an interview.
“They scheduled an interview. We spoke mostly about execution, growth ideas, psychology behind marketing, things I’d already done before etc, and a few days later I got the offer,” he said.
The techie also reflected on how different his life feels now compared to a few years ago. “Still feels weird sometimes because a few years back I was just some kid sitting at home learning stuff from random internet rabbit holes at 2 am,” he wrote.
The post received a lot of attention online, with users congratulating him and asking for advice.
A user commented, “Sounds like something I’d want to learn in time, cool prospect ngl.”
Another wrote, “Really inspiring journey man. This proves that skills + consistency + putting yourself out there can genuinely change your life.”
“Hey congrats OP, can I know more about you like some links or something or can you give me some resources or how exactly you sold yourself. I have some pages of my own. But it’s just that,” a person commented.
“If you actually didn’t believe they would consider you, why would you put so much effort into getting the job? Obviously, something made you believe in yourself. Congratulations,” a comment read.
A comment read, “Most people wait for the “perfect degree” or opportunity, but you created your own path. Respect for staying consistent through underpaid work and difficult clients, that phase teaches the most. Wishing you even bigger success ahead.”
