Nashik Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe what they describe as a possible organised pattern targeting financially vulnerable recruits. Several accused employees have been arrested and others suspended by the company pending investigation.
TCS has called the allegations “gravely concerning” and stated it has a strict zero-tolerance policy toward harassment while cooperating with authorities. Separately, Infosys issued a statement addressing social media claims linked to its Pune facility, reiterating its commitment to employee safety and a zero-tolerance approach to workplace misconduct.
Probe Widens As Multiple Complaints Surface
The controversy at the Nashik BPO centre escalated rapidly after investigators discovered that the initial complaint was not an isolated incident. Police say several women employees later approached authorities with similar accounts, leading to multiple FIRs and the arrest of several suspects, including team leaders and HR staff.
According to investigators, the alleged incidents involve repeated sexual harassment, inappropriate remarks, coercive behaviour and attempts to pressure employees regarding religious practices. Authorities believe the accused may have worked together as a coordinated group and targeted financially vulnerable recruits, including those facing family or economic difficulties.
Police officials say some victims initially hesitated to report the alleged harassment due to fear of losing their jobs or facing retaliation at the workplace. As more testimonies emerged, investigators began examining whether there was a pattern of behaviour within the office environment.
FIRs and witness statements describe allegations such as inappropriate comments about women’s bodies, intrusive questions about their personal lives, and attempts to build personal relationships with the victims. In some cases, complainants alleged they were pressured into romantic relationships or encouraged to alter aspects of their lifestyle and beliefs.
Authorities have also examined whether internal grievance mechanisms were properly followed after early complaints were made. According to police officials, some victims alleged that earlier concerns were dismissed or discouraged by supervisors or HR staff.
One senior officer stated that investigators are analysing workplace communications, CCTV footage, and other evidence to determine whether any institutional lapses enabled the alleged misconduct to continue over several years.

In response to the allegations, TCS confirmed that employees named in the complaints have been suspended while the investigation continues. Senior leadership at the Tata Group has also described the allegations as deeply concerning and emphasised that a comprehensive internal inquiry is underway alongside the police investigation. Meanwhile, the controversy has triggered broader discussions within India’s technology sector about workplace safety and accountability.
Industry body NASSCOM said incidents of misconduct are taken seriously across the sector and emphasised that the IT industry operates under strict governance frameworks designed to protect employees’ dignity and safety. However, the Nashik case has raised questions about how effectively such policies are implemented on the ground, particularly in large workplaces with thousands of employees.
The issue also gained national attention after social media posts circulated alleging similar misconduct at an Infosys facility in Pune. Responding to the claims, Infosys released a statement reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy towards harassment or discrimination and emphasised that all reported concerns are investigated through formal grievance mechanisms. The company clarified that maintaining a safe and respectful workplace remains a top priority.
As the investigation continues, authorities have also explored whether any external funding, organised networks or broader conspiracies may be linked to the allegations. Police have reportedly contacted specialised investigative agencies to examine potential connections while stressing that the probe remains ongoing and all angles are being investigated carefully.
The controversy has also triggered public debate and protests from some groups demanding strict action against those responsible. At the same time, legal experts have cautioned that the investigation must proceed based on evidence and due process to ensure justice for victims while safeguarding fairness for the accused.
