In Spain, a tiny village called Arenillas has just around 40 people left. And honestly, instead of letting it fade away, the locals are doing something pretty interesting. They’re offering a free house and a guaranteed job to one family that’s ready to move there for good.
Now, it may sound like a dream deal, but there’s a catch. According to India Today, the family needs to have school-going kids and must be ready to live there full-time. They’ll also be expected to be part of the community and help keep the village running.

What Work Family Is Expected To Do?
The family will be expected to run the village bar. India Today reported that this role is less about earning money and more about keeping the social life of the village active. Along with this, they will help with maintenance and small construction work for the local municipality. In Arenillas, rent is usually around ₹9,000 a month, but the selected family won’t pay anything. Instead, their work will count as their contribution. The scheme launched in early 2026 and got over 100 applications in just a week. It’s no surprise people rushed to apply.
The village is located in a calm, hilly area with pleasant April weather around 24°C, giving it a peaceful vibe. But daily life isn’t that easy. Public transport is limited, so you’ll likely need a car. Schools is about 20 kilometres away, and winters can be tough. Also, there’s no visa included, so you must already have legal permission to live and work in Spain.
